Sometimes it is nice to ignore maximizing the data presented and create a visually appealing map.
Inspired by old blog posts from John Nelson, I used the paper cut style to create a map of the Susquehanna River Basin. Keeping with the theme, push pin symbols represent each well spud within the SRB in 2020, colored by its operator.
My favorite areas of the map are the ridges in the southern part of the basin.
At this scale, the pins represent each pad spud in 2020.
Letterpress visual was added in GIMP. If I use this technique again, I'll skip the text in ArcGIS and add it directly in GIMP.
Limited to special use cases, the paper cut style adds a unique style to an ordinary map. Let me know your thoughts.
